Title: OPNSense random lock ups
Post by: sylvainm on July 23, 2015, 07:49:54 PM
Been running OPNsense for around 2 months, came from pfSense. I'm running into an issue where every 2-3 days it just stops responding and I have to do a reset. I'm running it as a VM on ESXi 5.0
Can't access the WebUI, SSH into it. I don't recall if the console responded. I looked into /var/log but from what I can tell logging just stops when this occurs. Anyone else experience this? I'm a noob with freebsd, but very proficient in Unix. if the console is responsive, what should I be looking at?
running OPNSense 15.7.3 as of this monring, was 15.7.1

I've never had that problem when running 15.1.x.x in either ESXi 6.0 or Hyper-V 2012 R2.
Safest bet it to create a new VM, set the MAC address of the WAN to static and the same on the new VM, and do a reinstall. See if that's more stable.

why are you still running  5.0 of ESXi? you should be running 5.5 or 6.0 at the minimum

does ESXi lockup? or just the VM? cpu load high?

need more details.

Haven't seen this on VMware in all of FreeBSD 10, but I also keep mine up to date. It looks like support for 10 was added in 5.5:
