Title: New Traffic Reporting useless
Post by: Voodoo on December 20, 2020, 03:46:19 am
The new traffic reporting graph looks nice and all, but for usability it's useless.

The old table with traffic per host was much cleaner and more informative.

Why would you remove such a basic feature ?

You can always use ntopng if you need to track down users with high load.

Agree, the new traffic reporting graph looks nice but for my attraction to opnsense was using the "old graphs".  to quick look to see WHOM in the network is Active and to what extent.  Second is i have VPN for specific traffic connected over the WAN.  with the new reports i can't see how much traffic is routed though the VPN interface at a glance.  the WAN washes out the VPN interface in the graph.  (be nice if can change the interface colours).

Can the old reporting graph be brought back?

I also agree with OP...the new graph is not useful in conveying information.  Also prefer the old graphs.  ntopng is good, but not convenient for a quick look to see what's going on.

It will come back with similar functions

Just wanted to comment, it's pretty, but wow it's amazingly useless. It would also be nice to see previous history, or let the user pick a time scale.

For timescale you need to use netflow/insight.
Traffic Reporting is only for having a quick lock what happens right now

I just wanted to comment, it's petty, but wow [this low-bar communication style]'s amazingly useless. ;)

Cheers,

Not necessarily, I mean you might want the last 1min, 5min, 10min left on the graph while it is open as an example. It would be amazing to have it able to tie into other things like netflow though, since it is the traffic page ;-)

There's a new tab in 20.7.8

I really have to agree. I cannot get any meaningful information from this new graph. Can we have the old graph back please. I cannot find local hosts using large amounts of traffic and have had to stop all my clients upgrading till we can fix this.

Traffic reporting is really pretty and I love animation and how smooth side scrolling is but it needs few improvements to be useful:

1 pause button - so one can inspect the data w/o it disappearing into the abyss
2 would it be possible to show source and destination in the 'speech cloud'?
3 longer time frame option -  current one is just too short
4 top talkers tab should allow sorting by clicking on particular column header

thank you
