21.7 Legacy Series / Connection Uptime Plugin?
September 24, 2021, 09:20:12 AM
Is there any plugin that will keep a log of when a PPPoE connection was initiated and disconnected with length of time it was active for.

I know you can look in the interfaces for the current connection time, but if the link drops for any reason you don't get a record of this stored anywhere

I had to reboot my switches today and after doing so I found later that the DHCPv6 Server was in a stopped state.

My setup is that my OPNsense is connected directly to my modem for the internet connection and then a switch for all my local devices.

RADVD was still running and even though my connection had not gone down, I only lost the DHCPv6 service on my network and only way to get the service back was to disconnect internet and reboot the server.

Surely should not need to do this when you've rebooted a switch, seeing that OPNsense is handing out the leases

Hi,

I currently have all my ipv6 settings set to dhcp, what is the best way to switch this to static as i'm hoping doing this resolves the issues with dpinger not restarting for a period of time after the connection dropped and the gateways saying no valid ipv6 addresses

i've got ipv6 through isp (zen)

20.7 Legacy Series / IPv6 and QOS Setup
January 07, 2021, 07:38:08 AM
I have enabled QOS on my IPv4 to share the bandwidth across all devices but how do I go about setting it up on IPv6

do i just change the ipv4 source/destination in rules to be 'any' and the proto to be 'ip' instead of 'ipv4'

20.7 Legacy Series / Add restart CRON Job for RADVD
November 16, 2020, 09:03:02 PM
Hi,

Is there a way to create a cron job in the gui to restart radvd on regular basis to fix ipv6 routing issues

thanks

In that case you are using dhcv6 and not statics.

yeh, i've just found an old email from when testing Google Wifi and the Deco - we got it all working using Dhcpv6 on WAN so left it as is.

Using the static as setup with your help when switched from sky and to the qotum

That's what I don't get, if you have set statics, there is ALWAYS the GUA address on the WAN. There is an issue with radvd which is intermittent and prevents the LAN side clients from getting routes etc, this may be what you are suffering from. I am currently running RTADVD in place of RADVD and so far so good, that doesn't help you though. If you see this happening again, try restarting radvd.

thanks, will do as when checked thinkbroadband and uptime robot connection these showed fine and only disappeared between the period I restarted and the link showing ipv6

I have just checked settings under lan and the ipv6 is set to track interface

and under wan ipv6 is set to dhcpv6 (im trying to locate some old emails but don't think ever changed this setting)

Have you got it set up using dhcp6? Zen gives you the ability to use static assignments, so use them. The only issue you'll ever then have is on a few occasions dpinger does not recover when a PPPoE down/up event happens, usually a BT line hiccup; to get around that I use Monit to watch the dpinger daemons and restart them if they are down.

Using the static as setup with your help when switched from sky and to the qotum

Originally I wasn't getting any IPv6 throughput from clients but dpinger and dhcpv6 were showing active and the gateway monitor was reporting that all was ok.

There were no leases in the Dhcpv6 for local devices and connection had been active over 30 days.

I restarted dpinger and dhcpv6 but still no ipv6 locally so restarted the unit, when then connected I was getting no ipv6 details on the wan only ipv4, i restarted the connection but still no good so rebooted again. This still never worked and so I started writing an email to ISP to see if there were issues and it finally came back up before I sent anything.

I noticed earlier I had lost IPv6, so restarted my connection but this still didn't start straight away so rebooted the system and still unable to get dpinger to start and no ipv6 detected on the wan.

I rebooted and restarted the connection a few times and still nothing, but as I was then deciding to check with my ISP (Zen) the Wan interface showed IPv6 and dpinger started. This was after a considerable amount of time (about 10 minutes), so why is it so slow in getting IPv6 back up and running.

General Discussion / is it worth running os-ntopng
September 25, 2020, 07:11:41 PM
as title says I know you've insight to see traffic but is there any other benefit to install os-ntopng and would it add too much overhead to the system

20.1 Legacy Series / Re: Unable to update

Might be an intermittent issue, although TLS verification fail is something that requires both a client and a server to interact. Either the client or the server was wrong and if your client worked I'm not sure which server answered. Maybe a redirect to a self-signed server somewhere else depending on your network setup? Hitting a HTTPS proxy maybe?

Cheers,
Franco

never changed anything else on the configuration as was all setup with the help of @marjohn56

The only info I noticed when went into the gateway monitor was that the ip address was set to full ipv6 address instead of :::1 which it originally was set to

The updates are set to look at defaults, the time is correct on the system and I've never made changes to the certificates either, so these would have been as was when installed

I'm now on the latest version

20.1 Legacy Series / [SOLVED] Re: Unable to update
September 25, 2020, 12:07:31 AM
i think i've fixed it and not sure if the issue was caused by the update

I checked the settings of the wan_v6_monitor gateway and noticed that the ip address had been changed to full ip instead of ::1, so set this back to how I originally set this up and immediately I was able to get update information.

also have just noticed @ 9:19 (current uk time) that it reports a crash on the main dashboard page, which was for roughly around the time (7am uk time) i was fixing this, but have submitted it just incase something else a miss

20.1 Legacy Series / Unable to update
September 24, 2020, 09:00:03 PM
I've previously had an issue early last year on performing an update and getting the error

Could not authenticate the selected mirror.

I had some advice and changed settings and was then able to update from 19 to 20.1.7 but now if I try to update I get the same issue as before so unable to update to 20.7, but have not changed my settings

Are there still issues with updating when using ipv6? Is there a way to force the update via ipv4 without having to mess about with configuration changes?

Thanks

20.1 Legacy Series / ipv6 traffic shaping
July 09, 2020, 11:30:15 PM
I have traffic shaping setup (followed the opnsense documentation) for my connection to ensure no device hogs all the bandwidth, this is set to ip protocol but then source/destinations are ipv4 settings.

do i just do similar for ipv6 to ensure that is traffic shaped and will it then share the whole bandwidth between both ipv4 and ipv6 devices

thanks
