Title: Translation
Post by: fabian on August 21, 2015, 06:12:10 pm
Hello everyone,

I am Fabian (the person who started the german translation) and I want to ask you, if you would like to help the project to be translated into your native language.

You can see the translation files where people are working on here: https://github.com/opnsense/core/tree/master/lang (https://github.com/opnsense/core/tree/master/lang)

A translation file which has more than 30% of the strings translated will usually be included in the release.

Kind regards,

Fabian

Hello
I am also considering to translate it into my native language. And I've seen the core/lang directory and translated files. And I installed Opnsense into VMware Workstation on my mac and accessed through web configuration then I checked whether I can change language into Fr, Es, JP but it gives me only German and Chinese language option.

If you have a experience with changing language please share with me your knowledge. Know I've installed freeBSD and installing git also downloading source code of the Opnsense. From that point I will try to add our native language set into core/lang directory and build it then make my own image file. I don't know where should I change and from where to begin. If I add my language set into core/lang directory and change the makefile within the core/lang directory, make a image file which is created by using my changes source code, and then if I install Opnsense using the image that I created, will it give me the language change option in my webconfig option?

Best Regards,
Nasaa

Hi nasaa,

the initial commit for a new language is always tricky, but we can do it for you if you let us know which one you want to contribute to.

You can view other languages by switching to the development package: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=917.0

Languages will stay in development until they have a sizeable amount of translations.

In terms of contributing we support several ways... you can send updates to the language .po file via email, via GitHub pull request or via our new translation platform that is ready to go public in a few weeks.

Cheers,
Franco

Hello franco
Thanks for the help.

I have installed opnsense-devel package and switched languages. It works great.

And I want to add Mongolian language. So I am building opnsense with the source code which has changed a little bit. I have copied de_DE.po file and named it mn_MN.po also changed few lines of it into Mongolian. And I have added mn_MN into lang argument within the Makefile. From that point I am building the opnsense from that source and trying to make image file. After creating image file can I change it's language into Mongolia, at least for testing? if not where should I make changes except that 2 changes?

I will send my mn_MN.po file when i translate about 30% of it according to material which says we should translate at least 30% of it, in order to publish it.

Best Regards
Nasaa

Ah, right. Let me get back to your message. I have it queued up but was traveling the past few days. Will reply with an email soon. :)

PS: you can always send in your progress, it's ok if it's only a few percent per update as long as it's progress.

Hi all,

I have just one simple question about some term translation.

For lot of english terms , i think it's corresponding to variables but I saw in German translation there are translated.

For exemple the term "authscope" located at Unit #115598 at https://translate.opnsense.org/de/gui/translate/de.po#unit=115598 is translated to "Authentifizierungsscope"

Are you sure need to translate this term and lot of other located below it ?
If it's used to populate the variables, that will be probably generate bug.

Could you please confirm me the necessary to translate them ?

Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Greg.

As long as it it in the template (pot), it has to be translated. It is the job of the extractor to look for the right strings and the job of the code to use the right strings.

Which email did you send this from? The translation project requires a rework so things are moving slow. Sorry.

Tried to register for Dutch translation via the POEditor website but cannot edit or suggest anything. It looks like the Dutch translation has some sort of approval loop in which my application is still 'pending'. Anyone knows how to obtain approval?
