What's the best way to test the Google Backup config backups I have been creating for several years are actually fine? It's such a long time since I set it up and also not sure if I have the original key file to decode them after a complete loss of the firewall.

Download them from your google drive, import them into a virtual box vm to test them.

Sorry, but that's not exactly convenient, I'm not interested in having to use Virtual Box for a simple file check.

1. Download config (backup) from Opnsense GUI
2. Download from Google Drive
3. Diff.
4. Be happy.

They are not encrypted the same way, uses different keys, so I need to know how to manually decrypt the file from Google Drive so I can then run a diff as you suggest.

You need the OpenSSL command installed. I posted it years ago on this forum.
Maybe you can find it.

Apologies - I had naively assumed that the backup to gdrive was made in plain text and protected by the usual GDriveaccess control.
Just checked my own setup and indeed the backups are encrypted. Thankfully I did save the key somewhere. So I'll need to test it as well. *Follows thread*

Will test it tomorrow.

No worries, hopefully the thread I found thanks to fabian will sort us out.
