Title: Thank you!
Post by: general_tsos_pizza on April 30, 2018, 04:13:01 pm
Hello,

I've been using pfsense for a few months now. I started because I am in school to learn more on network administration and running my own personal router has been the single most beneficial thing I've done for myself in this regard.

Sadly, my hardware is too old to support AES-NI and I can't see myself upgrading any time soon. I gave opnsense a try just yesterday, and have been pleasantly surprised. The issues I've had in the past with lag spikes and QoS (or traffic shaping) have vanished, and I haven't even setup true traffic shaping yet. Traffic shaping and bandwidth limitation has always been the pinnacle of my problems on pfsense, or at least I thought. I don't know what magic opnsense has done to my home network, but my plex streams and p2p connections can't seem to bog down my network like before. So far I see no need to setup traffic shaping.

Also, while pfblockerng was very powerful, I wasn't a fan of the user interface. Is there any plans of opnsense to integrate a pretty version of that? Til then, I'm using an unraid docker for pihole and it's doing the job just fine.

Thanks for this fantastic open source project.

Do you guys accept donations in Cryptocurrency? Nano, Ethereum, etc?

We will very likely not add pfblockerng. There are existing scripts available via the internet to add blacklists to unbound.

I see that thanks! Hoping to see other donation methods in the future  8)

We can do built-in IDS/IPS, Remote Blacklists for the Web Proxy or Remote Alias lists or also GeoIP. We lack a bit of easy alias management and plugin capabilities for different lists / databases, but we'll get there. :)
