Title: KEA DHCP DNS search suffix

Hello everyone

I migrated the ISC DHCPv4 server to KEA and everything worked so far. I simply had to adjust the domain and search domain to my internal .local domain in the system settings. I previously had a public domain in the system settings and different search domains in the DHCP scopes.

Now the correct internal search domain is given to the clients via DHCP, but Unifi access points do not receive this and therefore cannot find the inform url.

Has anyone here had the same experience?

hey, I don't have a solution for your problem, but I'm also switching to KEA. Where did you configure the search domains? I can't find this setting in KEA's part.

Since you're encountering an issue where Unifi access points are not receiving the correct internal search domain via DHCP, leading to difficulties in finding the inform URL one option will be to check DHCP options, ensure that the DHCP options provided by KEA DHCP server include the correct search domain information (option 119 for domain search list). Verify the DHCP configuration to confirm that the internal .local domain is correctly configured and being sent to clients. Another solution may be to verify the configuration of your UniFi access points to ensure that they are configured to obtain network settings via DHCP and that they support receiving and using domain search information provided by the DHCP server.

I set this on my install, but still having issues pinging just by host name internally, unless I'm missing something else.

Then it would be DHCP Option 15 for domain and DHCP Option 119 for search domains

It is not the job of the recursive DNS server to append search domains. The resolver library on the client does that.

Oh I know, however it appears KEA doesn't quite use the default system one as ISC did.  Most likely just some missing options right now.  Not a showstopper, just a minor annoyance. :)
