Title: Lan devices don't have network anymore after upgrading to 21.1.8
Post by: 7szdtfbv9s7tzf9s on July 09, 2021, 02:11:06 pm
Lan devices don't have network anymore after upgrading to 21.1.8 from 21.1.7_1.
Opnsense is installed in a virtual machine on a ESXI host.
Opnsense is used as a firewall/gateway/dhcp/dns provider for the virtual machines in a lan.
Couldnt ping devices from esxi lan interface and devices couldnt ping esxi lan interface either.
Had to restore esxi snapshot to restore network.

We don't have enough information to help troubleshoot. How is networking configured on ESXi and OPNsense? What wasn't working after the upgrade? DHCP? DNS? Layer 2? Layer 3?

If you can plan for some down time and run the upgrade again then you can troubleshoot more in depth. Take a snapshot of the VM before and after the upgrade so you can toggle between the working and non-working snapshots easily until the problem is resolved.

I had same issue. Couldn't access it at all. Had to validate all interface MAC addresses and some had moved around and were attached in the wrong order. Had to fix it via console.

I will try to plan some down time during this week to reproduce it and see if MAC adresses got moved around too. When it happened I unfortunately didnt have time to diagnose and had to rollback quickly.

I tried updating again and I can confirm I had this exact issue and reassigning the interfaces correctly fixed the networks. Thank you very much :)
