Really slow performance Acer R 11 750 to 35

I have an Acer R11 with 1.6 Duo Core I was looking to use OPNSense on to use VPN since the laptop has AES-Ni. After setting up however, my Comcast Gig speed (normally over wifi I get about 750-800Mbps) my speed has dropped down to 35-40Mbps.

My setup is a Docsis 3.1 modem by Netgear (CM1000), to the Acer R11, Which connected to my AC88Us for Wi-Fi. Again, when I just had the modem connected to AC88U Wi-Fi was 750-800, so I am curious how it can drop that much. Is it purely not enough processing power? While it is not a ton, it's significantly more than other gateway options. For example Ubiquiti's that's only 500Mhz.

Or maybe I have it misconfigured. As of now it's pretty barebones, no proxy, vpn, special firewall rules. I did see changing MMS to 1400 is supposed to help but that didn't change much. Any other ideas?
